Stay happy and healthy this winter

The change in season is well upon us and, like most people, here at The Barn we’ve been chatting about the darker days, the colder weather and that overwhelming urge to stay indoors.

So, between us, we’ve come up with a list of top tips to keep us happy and healthy through the winter months - and we thought we’d share it with you!

Eat healthy

’Tis the season for hearty, comfort foods, but that doesn’t mean you can’t eat healthy during the winter. At The Barn, we’ll still be tucking into plenty of fruit and vegetables, hearty stews and winter smoothies.

Stay hydrated

In the summer, we really focus on keeping hydrated and drinking plenty of water, however in winter bad habits creep back in and Costa try to lure us in with those Pumpkin Spiced Lattes…

The truth is you need to maintain your water intake no matter the season. Water not only keeps us hydrated but also helps regulate body temperature (key to staying warm in winter) and is essential to the function of cells, tissues and organs. It’s also key to healthy, glowing skin!

We’ve been trying out some new flavours at The Barn; try infusing your water with winter flavours such as cranberry and orange - delicious! Eating fresh fruit is also an excellent source of water!

Stay active

We know it’s difficult to stay motivated to exercise during the winter, but there are simple ways to get an endorphin-boost without hitting the gym.

Being in the countryside, we’re firm believers in the simple power of fresh air. Briony’s been getting her hit by taking the lovely Max out for a walk; Leah’s been hiking up Crook Peak after work. Find what works for you because fresh air is definitely good for the soul!

Rest up and get some ‘me-time'

Regular sleep is vital to staying healthy; don’t let yourself get run down. Book in some me-time; whether that’s reading a book, relaxing with a cuppa or treating yourself to a massage with us. It’s important to rest, relax and unwind.

Protect your skin

Drier, colder air, harsh central heating, sudden temperature changes… these all suck moisture fro your skin, so you're more likely to experience dryness and flakiness. Now’s the time to amp up your skincare routine and swap your usual products for richer, more nourishing alternatives.

You could give your skin a little boost with Phyto Replenish Oil from Dermalogica (we have a cute Christmas stocking filler size in at the moment!) This feather-light treatment oil rapidly absorbs to reinforce the skin’s protective barrier.

We hope our tips help you stay happy and healthy for winter Barnies! If all else fails, come and visit us!
