What happens during a hot stone massage?

Hot stone massage is one of the most relaxing therapeutic massages available.

We asked massage king and Barn Therapist, Piotr, to tell us more about what happens during a hot stone massage and its benefits:

“Hot stone massage is used to help you relax as well as to ease muscle tension throughout your body” he says. “It can also be used to relieve everyday stress and anxiety, and to promote good sleep.”

During a hot stone massage, smooth, flat, heated stones are placed on specific areas of your body. The stones are usually made of basalt, a type of volcanic rock that retains heat.

“The heat of the stones penetrates deep into the muscle tissue allowing the muscles to relax around 4-5 times quicker than in a standard massage” says Piotr.

“We use Swedish massage techniques such as smooth, slow movements to release any knots or tension deep in the muscle.”

As well as being a deeply relaxing experience, the heat from the stones improves blood circulation, speeds up metabolism, and can have a positive impact on the digestive and lymphatic (immune) systems.

Piotr has appointments available this Wednesday from 2-8pm. Please call to book.
